Enough fucking around, time to throw the dice. I went to the recruiting centre to start the application process for the defence forces. It went pretty well. I actually enjoyed the aptitude test. Although I did miss having a calculator! Tell me, what is the value of "c", given that "A" = 270, "b" = 3 and "d" = 2.5, with the following equation:
A = b x c^2 x d
Keep in mind, you're in a hurry (30 seconds) and you don't have a calculator! Also, factorisation is something I hadn't done since high school.
The biggest hurdle for me will be the medical. I am still half deaf. But the doctor provided a glimmer of hope. For suitably skilled applicants, they might consider a waiver. He said it was maybe a 50/50 chance. That's much better than no chance, so I am happy with that. I'll also need to able achieve a shuttle run of level 7.5. Hmmm.
Later I had an interview with a "Careers Counsellor". He indicated that it would have been impossible to manage a better score in the aptitude test, and I was suitable for any of the positions. Sweet!
We also had a discussion about the Aussie version of the "code". But I've an inherent aversion to sharing military secrets.

I dunno, 270/3 is pretty easy. Then finding a number that goes into that result 2.5 times takes a little bit of mental maths. Then fortunately the square root of it's result is simple. It's not like they picked any hard numbers with multiple decimal points.
The sceptic in me wonders if Cletus from the Simpsons would also be suitable for any "positions" in the army. Operation Human Shield anyone?
