I think that Australia needs to carefully consider all energy options. I believe in the Peak Oil theory, and I am conscious of the impact this will have on our nation. I would happily include nuclear options, for our power equirements. In the following article, it seems Labor is chasing votes. Pointing to the anti-nuclear protestors and saying there are no votes in the pro-nuclear view is short sighted. It shits me, but in contrast the coalition is considering the energy needs of the nation.
I am at least encouraged by the AWU wanting to look at the issue.

My concern is that the powers that be won't consider all the different nuclear options available, nor will they spend enough time and effort into reviewing these properly. Australia's energy crisis may not be at the levels of the US and China, but these discussions should have been started decades ago. The problem that most governments have is that they're usually very short sighted (think the number of years between elections) and even then long term thinking is limited to about 20 years at the most. We need to be looking strategically at the next 50 years as a minimum when we're talking about sustainability issues.
