At the end of school, I was facing a decision. Engineer or Architect. Thrilling choices, aren't they? Well you can piss off, either would have suited. I also quietly entertained the idea of Draftsman, but going to TAFE would have been frowned upon.
Yeah, right... anyway. the point is that I have had a long fascination with environmentally friendly buildings. Particularly Solar Passive houses. But IEAUST ran an article on this development below. Care of Sky Scraper News! I give you: Castle House Tower
Wind turbines incorporated in to the design. I was quite surprised in Delph about the resistance against wind turbines. Apparently they are an unsightly blight on the landscape. Never mind that your eyes will be useless due to the ACID RAIN!!

It would be interesting to know if they have taken into account the telecommunications, radio and television interference generated by the turbines.
Rooftops are prime real estate for this sort of equipment.
Hmmm, good point. I hadn't considered that. I guess they'll find out soon enough.
It is similar to the Aussie government's push for digital television. It's all fine, unless you live under the flight path. Which includes a significant chunk of prime Sydney real estate.
Flight path or no flight path, Aussies aren't accepting digital television with open arms. Nor are the citizens of many other countries. Australia was slated to make the switch to digital in 2008 but that may be pushed out to 2010 already. And perhaps further...
But that's a little off topic I guess.
I definately think that there is a lot of space wasted in this country's cities. Particularly when it comes to enviro-friendly power generation. I came across an article that detailed the development of a vertical axis wind turbine that could be used to harness the updraft in built up city areas, but I've lost the link!
