Blissfully juvenile. That is the accurate description of my attitude to flying. Last week I caught a plane to Melbourne, as advertised. Robo loaned me his backpack, and off I went. I mentioned to him, that with what I packed, I would happily travel anywhere in the world. That was a refreshing thought. Arriving at the airport, I could delude myself with the thought of looking like a backpacker. I rather enjoyed that. Add to that the feeling that I could jump on any plane and find a new world...for the moment.
I am still a novice airborne passenger. I have only travelled by plane 3 times? I really enjoy the excitement of travelling to a foreign place, or Melbourne :). Last week there were three things that struck me during the flight. The first was the clarity of the topology of Botany Bay. The water was amazing, a clear delineation of sand and bedrock, mezmerisng. Secondly was the snow, the sheer volume of it really took me by surprise. From that height, the snow made the hills look so close, so small. Looked like very good cover for the skiers. Lastly was the 'ant perspective'. I am sure all of us have had the feeling. You know, where you are walking throught the city, thinking that humans are just a larger version of ants? Well from the plane that perspective is accentuated. I reckon some time in a hot air balloon would be rather insightful. Maybe that idea only comes from the novice status.
